About this program

The project will fund the construction of a new police detachment within the community of Okanese First Nation. File Hills First Nations Police Service currently serves five communities including Carry the Kettle, Little Black Bear, Okanese, Peepeekisis Cree Nation No. 81, and Star Blanket First Nation. For the past 18 years, the FHFNPS has leased two facilities, neither of which was initially designed to house policing facilities. The Headquarters office was rented from the File Hills Community Health Services Inc. who evicted FHFNPS as they needed use of the facility. The other location was a sub-office at Carry the Kettle First Nation and was demolished in 2018 and a trailer is being used instead. The detachment will be a single-story building of approximately 900 sq. meters. It will include the following: a secure visitor vestibule, secure lobby with washroom, cultural room, public interview room, secure interview room, senior and supervisors officers offices, managerial staff, inner and outer exhibit lockers, file storage room, meeting/training room, police equipment room, male/female locker rooms, exercise room, break room, with kitchen appliances, cold storage for equipment, breath testing/identification room, prisoner and witness interview rooms, four cells, guard area, secure interview room, prisoner shower room, secure custody room, secure bay, and garage bay.
