Given the transition to a low-carbon economy and the uncertainty of complex international relations, it is necessary to secure and improve the supply of critical battery metals in Canada. This project will improve the processing of primary and secondary raw materials to produce next-generation battery materials through selective leaching and selective precipitation. The Project will advance knowledge of selective metal leaching and develop automated self-guided laboratories for the extraction of critical metals with minimal human intervention. The project will strengthen the Canadian battery supply chain, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the sustainable use of resources. The results will boost Canada’s domestic production capacity, create economic growth and position the country as a leader in the global battery supply chain supporting environmental and economic sustainability.
